MARB/MCES SEMINAR SERIES: Accelerating your Research using TAMU High Performance Computational Resources
Date: Thursday August 29, 2024
Time: 3:40 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: OCSB 142, Texas A&M University Galveston
Abstract:
This talk will focus on highlighting the computational resources that are available to faculty, staff and students at Texas A&M Galveston and how to access them. High Performance Computing (HPC) can be used both as a way to simply speed up your analysis by running multiple jobs simultaneously, but also to perform computations that would be impossible on a standard workstation. Texas A&M has world-class HPC resources that can be accessed remotely. Resources are spread across a variety of clusters targeted at accelerating computational analysis for different fields of science and engineering, as well as resources designed for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning development. As part of Texas A&M University, students, staff and faculty at TAMUG have full access to both the computational hardware and numerous field-specific software. These resources are managed by the High Performance Research Computing (HPRC) group who also provides technical support, help with installation of new or customized software, user groups, seminars, conferences and more. While TAMUG is separated physically from the main campus, there is no reason why TAMUG students, staff and faculty should not benefit from being part of the HPRC community. This talk will be an open invitation to do so and will focus on the basics of how to get an account, what types of accounts are available, how to get your specific analysis running on HPC and how to get help. There will also be some examples of how researchers have used HPC to elevate their research.
