FY2018 Account Renewals

HPRC accounts will expire on September 1, 2017. This date marks the activation of the new 2018 "fiscal" year (FY2018) cycle for login accounts with corresponding computing time allocations and the automatic expiration of all corresponding FY2017 ones, on all systems. Users who by September 1st have approved FY2018 computing time allocations to their accounts will enjoy uninterrupted use of the supercomputers.

To secure uninterrupted and full use of your account on a supercomputing system, you must submit an application for an allocation on that system as soon as possible, and certainly no later than August 24. This is especially important when applying for Research allocations. Reminder: Students and postdocs can only submit an application for a Basic allocation; research associates and research scientists can apply for a Basic and/or a Startup allocation; but PIs, in addition to Basic and Startup, can apply for a Research allocation. A request for a Research allocation is recommended if a PI plans to sub-allocate chunks of time to collaborators. But a Research allocation must first be approved by the HPRC Resource Allocation Committee (HPRC-RAC), which takes a bit of time.

  1. How do I submit an application for an allocation?

    Submit an application at https://hprc.tamu.edu/apply/

  2. Do I need to submit a project report?

A user should submit a project report for each Startup and/or Research allocation in https://hprc.tamu.edu/ams. Failure to submit a project report may be unfavorable for your applications for FY 2018 allocations. More details on project reports can be found at https://hprc.tamu.edu/policies/allocations.html.

  3. What if I do not have an approved allocation by September 1?

In such a case, you will not be able to run batch jobs. You will be able to only login and carry out minor interactive processing until October 1, 2018. On that date, if you still do not have an approved application, your account will be shut down, and you will lose login access as well.

  4. How do I speed up approval of my application?

Providing correct and adequate information helps a lot. Two things that commonly cause delays are grossly inadequate research/project descriptions and incorrect specification of the PI's NetID, name or e-mail address. Sometimes a weak justification for a Research allocation can also cause delays.

  5. How do I use my new approved FY2018 accounts?

Once your FY2018 application is approved, you will receive a notification which tells you the NEW account(s) to use in FY2018. You need change your old accounts to new accounts in job scripts to submit jobs in FY2018. For example, '#BSUB -P 081111111111" should be changed to "BSUB -P 084444444444" where '081111111111' is your old account for FY2017 and '084444444444' is your new account for FY2018. An alternative is that you may set your default project account to your new FY2018 account by ‘myproject -d 084444444444’ on our supercomputers.

  6. You can submit an application for a FY2018 allocation any time you want; however, users who wait past August 24 risk interruption of full access. So, please submit renewal or new requests as soon as possible. You will not be able to submit jobs if you do not have FY 2018 accounts.

PLEASE DISREGARD THIS NOTICE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY APPLIED FOR A FY2018 ALLOCATION.
